TT4T#53 - When Prayer Cuts Like a Knife - 1/11/17
Tuesday Jan 10, 2017
Tuesday Jan 10, 2017
For most Jews, the siddur is the text that is referred to above all others. It is certainly used more than a Gemara, more then a Chumash and more than any work of Halacha. But why is there is standardized format for prayer? Why don't we organically compose Tefilot as we require them? This Ten answers this question with an insight from the parsha and explains that there are two very different types of prayer. Each is important, but one is clearly "sharper" than the other.

Monday Jan 09, 2017
Monday Jan 09, 2017
If Judaism has uniform commandments that we must all keep and universal prohibitions we must all avoid, is there any room for individuality and finding YOUdiasm? Is it possible for a person to find their unique and distinct role in the Jewish community? This Ten looks at Yaakov, his children, and his childhood for insights into how to evaluate a successful Jewish life and how to put the YOU in your Jewish life.

Thursday Jan 05, 2017
Thursday Jan 05, 2017
One of our fast days is coming up, and while there is a debate as to which historical event it recalls, there is another surprising debate about what we do if it falls out on Shabbat. While this can't actually occur in our calendar (so nothing to worry about!), this Ten discusses what we might learn from those who see the Tenth of Tevet as a fast that is unmovable.

Tuesday Jan 03, 2017
Tuesday Jan 03, 2017
If it makes sense, should it be the law? This Ten discusses a lesser-known origin of Jewish law: Common Sense. Some of the most common mitzvot we do and one of the most serious things we are asked are derived from something we all have: the human mind. Would you agree?
